Formal Project Proposal (Written) & In-Class Pitch (Oral)

You will each be delving into  an inquiry this semester.  This inquiry can revolve around any number of topics. You do not yet have to have a solid inquiry question, but you will need a starting point for an inquiry proposal. After you write your proposal, you will give a “pitch” to the class on your inquiry project idea. Then, as a class, we will vote on topics of interest and divide into groups. In these groups, each member will take a unique direction to the inquiry.

Inquiry-Guided Learning

Students will each be developing an individual line of inquiry that will relate back to their group's larger inquiry question. In the early stages, as suggested by Virgina Lee, students are assisted and guidance "may be substantial, but over time guidance as a driver of learning decreases while inquiry as the primary driver of learning increases" (5).

In the early stages of inquiry, as students are developing a stronger sense of the inquiry process, I will provide the paramaters for inital development; however, as students develop robust lines of questioning which yeild productive inquiries, students will define the later stages of the inquiry process.

From Reading as a Writing to Composing as a Reader

Through your Inquiry Logs, you have garnered a sense of the conversation, developed thought-provoking and problem-based questions that led you to providing your inquiry group with new insights, approaches, and/or suggestions as you came to understand that there were, indeed, “gaps.” You will now take your understanding of the conversation and your recognition of the “gaps” and contribute to larger discourse communities as you disseminate your work in one of four Web Text options: a digital magazine, a website, a digital academic journal, or a book (with multiple genre options to choose from).I'm a paragraph.
