Contribution Statement

Contribution Statements are regular practice across different fields and Communities of Practice, though they sometimes will go by a different name. These statements articulate what it is that you will be contributing to a larger body of conversation. You can see examples of contribution statements and the rational for them here.

With your group, you will need to co-create a Contribution Statement. Operating on the guidelines presented by JCR, you should:

"[S]ubmit a maximum of 300 words describing the contribution of your work [which will be your group's Web Text Contribution]." This statement will create the framework for your larger contribution and will operate as the stating foundation for the required "opening" for your larger work. "Your contribution statement should include two things:

  • The state of scholarship prior to your work (this is not a complete history; you should only include what will be applicable to better understanding what you are adding to, repositioning, or extending from).

  • What your work will add

The goal of your contribution statement should be to provide a clear and concise focal point for your [larger work].

*Give your Contribution Statement a title, again see examples from JCR

FAQs from JCR that will also apply to you:

  • Why initiate a policy asking for contribution statements?

  • Should my contribution statement be written for a general audience?
